Larry Lee McAlister, 82, of Elon passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 20, 2026.

Larry was born on May 27, 1944 in Alamance County to Robert and Florine McAlister. He worked for many years as a truck driver, serving Carolina Tank Lines, Piedmont Hardwood, and Dry Kiln. In his free time, he loved to fish, whether it was fresh water or salt water, and spend time at the beach.  A true handyman, if something broke, he could fix it, whether it was his truck, tractor, or chainsaw.  He also built several things around the house, including outbuildings and fireplaces.  Larry also loved listening to bluegrass music.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Connie Trollinger; son, Jason McAlister and wife Terra; grandsons, Eric Trollinger and Prince Trollinger and wife Danielle; great granddaughter, Karmen Moore; brothers, Mike McAlister and Jimmy McKinney and wife Lita and their children Cindy and Crystal and grandchildren, Jasmine, Lydia, and Tyler; sister, Susan Haar; sisters-in-law, Dazel Oakley and Peggy Gerringer; and special friends, Dennis Sherill, Tommy Hensley, Betty Faulker, and G.W. Gerringer. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Eva “Ruby” Gerringer McAlister; brother, Bob McAlister, as well as infant twin brothers.

The family will receive friends from 1:45 – 2:45 PM on Saturday, June 25, 2026 at Lowe Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 3 PM at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Shallow Ford Christian Church Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Larry’s caretakers and sister-in-law, Dazel, for their devoted care of Larry throughout the past several years.
