Larry Eugene “Jay” Smith, Jr., 62, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 14, 2024. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY and was the son of the late Larry E. Smith, Sr. and Vivian Echols Smith who survives.

Jay retired from the Burlington Police Department after 34 years of service as a Command Sergeant Major. He loved fishing, cooking and he loved to draw, especially crime scene photos. He also loved baseball and was a diehard Yankees fan. Jay was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father and grandfather who truly enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Jennings-Smith; children, Hannah Smith, Toni Campbell, Tajah McLaughlin and Uniquia Hester; grandchildren, Madison, Isaiah, Leah, Millyonah, Jayla and Ja-Kira; mother, Vivian Echols Smith; siblings, Christopher Barry Smith and Todd Grayson Smith; Uncle, Fred Echols and his wife, Carol and a nephew, Christopher Scott Smith. He was preceded in death by his father.

A service to celebrate his life will be held 12 Noon Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Morgantown Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:30-12:00 prior to the service (please offer only brief condolences at this time as the family will be available for visitation after the service). Honors will be provided by the Burlington Police Department.
