Greensboro, NC Lena Kathryn Paschal Dickerson, age 81, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Golden Living Center. She was a native of Rockingham County and the wife of the late Lewis Andrew Dickerson. Lena was the activities director for 20 years at White Oak Manor, retiring in 1998 and was of the Assembly of God faith. She started the first Alzheimer's Family Support Group meeting in Alamance County in 1983 and has been recognized numerous times by various state organizations for her fund-raising efforts for Alzheimer's Disease research and family support group needs. In 1990, she won the N.C.State Activity Director of the Year award from the N.C. Activity Professionals Association. She was also awarded the Business Women of the Year award by the Cardinal Chapter of the American Business Women's Association. In 2003, the annual activity director scholarship for the Piedmont District of the North Carolina Activity Professionals Association was renamed for her in her honor. Lena was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Tony Wilson of Newport News, Virginia and her son, Tony Dickerson of Greensboro; grandchildren, Derek and Paul Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, Arthur Mills and Alice Wyatt Walker Paschal; brother, Everett Paschal; sisters, Lottie Huskey and Ollie Triplett. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Chaplain Teressa W. Hopkins. An entombment will follow at the Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12:15 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
