Burlington –Lester Guthrie Jessup, 73, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at ARMC. He was a native of Alamance County and the son of the late Lester Abraham and Edna Rodema Guthrie Jessup. He was the husband of 52 years to Cornelia Miles Jessup who survives.
Lester was the Owner and Operator of LGJ Grading for over 45 years. He served in the US Navy Reserves as a Seabee and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Lester served 36 years as a volunteer fireman with the Elon Fire Department attaining the rank of Captain. He was a CNA and Advanced EMT. He graduated from Walter Williams High School and was a graduate of the NC Heavy Equipment School. Lester attend Brookwood Baptist for many years. He loved working with his hands and could fix anything mechanical. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Cornelia Miles Jessup of the home; daughter, Angela Shockley and her husband, James of Elon and a son Scott Jessup and wife, Nikki of Mayodan; grandchildren, Tyler and Kayla Shockley.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of ARMC for their exceptional care of Lester.
A private graveside service will be held at Alamance Memorial Park by Chaplain Brian Hurdle.
