Burlington-Levi Allen Hester, age 86 went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of Bonnie Whited Hester who survives. Levi retired from Burlington Lincoln, Mercury and Mazda after over 20 years. He was a lifetime member of Long's Chapel Christian Church where he served as a deacon, usher and various capacities in the church. He was a cook for the Ham and Egg suppers and stews for many years. Levi was a member of the Sox and Martin drag racing team and Jake King racing. He was a talented mechanic receiving recognition from Mazda for his excellence in service. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Hester of the home; daughter, Susan Hester Kersey of Burlington; sons, Donald Ray Hester, Sr. and wife, Annette R. Hester of Winston-Salem and Gary Hester of Winston Salem; daughter-in-law, Eva Hester of Graham; step children, Debbie Johnson and husband, Bert of Roanoke, Virginia, Denise Naylor and friend Greg of Keyser, West Virginia and Danny Whited and wife, Debra of Hillsborough; grandchildren, Tammy Rice, Candy H. Paul Jenkins, Elizabeth "Beth" H. Charlie Massie, Donald Ray Hester, Jr. and wife, Carla, Jeffrey Michael Hester, Melanie H. White, Belinda Kersey and Chad Erica Kersey; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Kay Hester Eakes and husband, Leon of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Wheeler Hester; son, Allen Lee Hester; parents, Benjamin Cleatus Hester, Sr. and Mary Frances King Hester; sister, Mary Lee Pierce and brothers, Benjamin "BC" Hester, Jr., Julius Mack Hester, Sr. and Bennie Hester. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Long's Chapel Christian Church by Re. R J Zupancich and the burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6- 8pm on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
