McLEANSVILLE- Lewis Edward Apple, Sr., 77, of McLeansville, died Saturday, April 15, 2006 at Wesley Long Community Hospital after a brief Illness. A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Elza Van Apple, Sr. and the late Corinna Hawk Apple and was married to Betty B. Apple, who survives, for over 55 years. He retired after working with Southern Webbing for 24 years and then with Cone Mills for 12 years and was a member of Rankin Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School. He was an U.S. Army Veteran of the 1st Calvary, serving in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Mr. Apple was an avid Duke fan and loved gardening. He had a deep love of God, family, country, and his friends. Mr. Apple is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Marie Apple of Greensboro; two sons, Lewis Apple, Jr. and his wife, Stephanie, and Paul Apple and his wife, Denise, all of Greensboro; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Dorothy Lee Apple of Burlington and Jeanette A. Bailiffe of Gibsonville; and a sister-in-law, Joyce T. Apple of Gibsonville. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Thelma Lucille Apple; and two brothers, Roland O. Apple and Elza Apple, Jr. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at Gibsonville City Cemetery by the Rev. Rick Webster. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 Tuesday, prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
