Linda Jean Cook Soyars, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Peak Resources in Graham. She was born in Reidsville, NC on January 10, 1943 to the late Walter Stiner Cook and Lillie Sue Tate Cook and was the wife of the late Charlie Fletcher Soyars.
She is survived by her son, Chad Soyars (Maryna) of Alaska; daughter, Chandra Mahoney (Matt) of Julian; grandchildren, Charli Mahoney and Mason Mahoney; her twin sister, Glenda Bondurant of Reidsville and her feline companion, “Tuko”. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; brothers, Russell Cook, Clyde Donald Cookand a brother-in-law, Joe Bondurant.
After she had her second child she went to ACC (community college) to further her education and afterwards started a career in 1981 at GKN (Mebane, NC) until she retired.
She was very close to her twin sister Glenda. It’s doubtful a day went by that they didn’t talk to each other. She very much loved visiting her grandchildren and watching them grow up. Like her husband Charlie, she devoted herself to her Christian faith and her family. She was a member of Altamahaw Baptist Church. After her husband Charlie passed in 1989 of battling cancer, she was left with two teenage children to raise on her own. The rest of her life was devoted to the well being of her family.
She had a slow decline in health over the last few months after a fall that broke her hip. She was a fighter until the end.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, February 9, 2026 at Alamance Memorial Park. The service will be lovingly officiated by Rev. Walter Jones. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband.
