Mr. Linnie Clarence Burnett, 87, of Burlington passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the Durham VA surrounded by family.
He was born in Surry County on March 1st, 1937 to the late Linnie K. Burnett and Ethel Mae Blevins Burnett. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, and also worked for many years as a truck driver. Upon retirement he worked part-time at Stoney Brooke Marina as long as his health permitted. He attended Grace Memorial Baptist Church. He was a member of the Copeland Masonic Lodge No. 390, A.F.&A.M. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing, fishing, and maintaining his lawn and flowers in his free time.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters Rachel B. Wood Greene, Vener Moxley Billings, brothers-in-law, Buford Wood, Dr. Preston Greene, Robert Lawson, Willie Arvil Moxley, Howard Billings, Butch Vestal, and Mike Roberts, sisters-in-law, Kay Burnett, Linda Simpson, and Brenda Wilkerson, step-daughter Shenna Hill, and a step-grandson, Clay Bowles.
Left to cherish his memory and quick-wit are his wife, Marie Simpson Burnett of Burlington, daughters Regina Burnett of Winston-Salem, Lynn Beasley (Ronald) of Mount Airy, step-children Donnie Hill (Lisa) of Mebane, Debbie Hyder (Mike) of Snow Camp, Patsy Webster (Bobby) of Reidsville, grandchildren Jeremy Payne of Winston-Salem, Stephanie Haymore (Brad) of Mount Airy, Austin Beasley of Clemmons, great-grandchildren Ryley Payne of Winston-Salem, Hudson and Addilyn Haymore of Mount Airy, 10 step-grandchildren, 9 step great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Surviving siblings are Raleigh Burnett (Carrie) of State Road, Lavon Edwards (George) of State Road, and David Burnett (Rhonda) of Mount Airy, brothers-in-law Bobby Simpson of Galax, Virginia, JC Simpson of Burlington, and sister-in-law, Helen Roberts.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel in Burlington with Rev. Dennis Bledsoe officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 pm prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Alamance Memorial Park.
Flowers will be accepted from friends and family in memory of how much Linnie loved his own flower gardens.
