Lucille Tickle Calligan, 89, passed away Tuesday at Liberty Commons Nursing Center after a brief illness. She was married to the late John Parker Calligan and was born November 29, 1923 in Guilford County to the late Quint and Lydia Lowe Tickle. Lucille was a registered nurse who had worked at Moses Cone Hospital and later at Alamance Memorial and Alamance County Hospitals. She was a member of Brightwood Christian Church and enjoyed gardening. Survivors include her sister Willie Mae Morgan and her husband Edsel of Gibsonville, her brother Robert Tickle of Whitsett and several nieces, nephews and her beloved dog Daisy Mae. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son Charles Parker Calligan, sisters; Ruth Martin, Grace Crenshaw, brothers; Burley Tickle, Earl Tickle, Henry Tickle, Woodrow Tickle and John "J.Q." Tickle. The funeral will be held 11:00 AM Friday at Brightwood Christian Church by Rev. Ricky Cox. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. and at other times at the home of her sister, 111 Brightwood Church Rd. in Gibsonville. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 or Brightwood Christian Church, 300 Kivett House Rd., Gibsonville, NC 27249. The family would like to say thank you to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell caregivers and the rest of Lucille's caregivers for the past year.
