Lucille Craddock Hensley

Annie Lucille (Lou) Craddock Hensley, age 94, left her earthly body on June 16, 2026 to meet her Lord and Savior face to face. We know she was greeted at the gates by Christ himself “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Now she is reunited with all her precious family members who went on before her and have now welcomed her to her heavenly home. All of Heaven is rejoicing at her arrival. Rest assured, there is much dancing in the Streets of Gold today. We who are left here must learn to rejoice and dance with them as well.

Lucille was born in Salisbury, NC on February 22, 1932. She loved to say all of America celebrated her birthday, a birthday she shared with George Washington.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Ernest Craddock and Annie Bell Ervin Craddock, her sisters, Lois Laney Carson, Peggy Craddock Simmons, and Elva Grace (Dossie) Ring, her brothers, Arnold Laney, Arnold Craddock, LC Craddock, Gene Craddock, and her most special and precious grandson Michael Hensley. Lucille also carried in her heart two babies who didn’t make it to full term.

Lucille was the loving, devoted, committed wife of Clyde Hensley. They eloped July 3, 1948, and shared many years of untold love, joy and laughter until Clyde’s death in 1994. They were young, but they got it so right!!!

Lucille had two other great loves in her life. Vicki, her firstborn, her daughter. Shopping trips. Vacations. Trips to visit friends. Traveling with Christian Tours. They enjoyed so many things together. Blake, her son, her favorite person in the whole world. She loved Blake fiercely and whole heartedly. She also considered Shawn, who just happened to be the only grandchild for 15 years, her third child. Why not? That was as it should be.

She was the best Granny, Gran, Nana, Great Granny, and Great-Great Granny ever to Shawn, Matthew, Kristal, Michael, Sarah, Katy, Steph, Chase, Jaiden, Khloe, Mason, Skylar and Ava. Each of them was uniquely special to her in their own way. She loved them beyond measure, always emphasizing that that made 5 generations.

Lucille had begun to share with several of her Hospice nurses that she just wanted to “Make it to see Vicki’s and Blake’s next birthday.” She met that goal as she had many others throughout her life. She made it to those birthdays, living 19 additional days afterward. Her family believes that as much as she sometimes thought she wanted to stay here on earth with us, she was ready to see most of all her Sweet Lord, her beloved husband Stock, and her precious mother. She has now received complete healing and joy and rest from the journey.

A funeral service to celebrate Lucille’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 20, 2026 in the chapel at Lowe Funeral Home. followed by burial at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at Lucille’s home.
