Luther Harrell Barrington

Luther Harrell Barrington, 86, passed away on May 29, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  A native of Chowan County, he was the son of the late Luther Earl and Eva Harrell Barrington.    

Harrell was a proud veteran of the National Guard before he started his career in the jewelry industry.  He became the district manager of Jewel Box stores and then was the Vice President of Carlyle & Company.  He was a faithful member of Union Ridge Church, where he served as a deacon and took part in their men’s fellowship.  He had a lifelong love of horses as well as fishing but his greatest love was his family.  He will forever be remembered for the love and support he showed them throughout their lives.  

Harrell is survived by his son; Kenny Barrington and wife Patricia, daughter, Allison Rainey and husband Tim, grandchildren; Roger Barrington and Austin Rainey; great grandchildren; Chase and Cassie Barrington, a brother; Billy Barrington and wife Deborah as well as several nieces, nephews and long-time family friends including Loraine and Henry Chandler. 

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 2:00PM at Union Ridge Church by Rev. Dan Ficklin with the burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:45 prior to the service at the church as well as other times at the home until after the services have concluded. 

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice for their kind and compassionate care during the last months.
