Lydia Iseley Berry

March 15, 1929 — March 18, 2026

Burlington

Lydia Iseley Berry, 97, affectionately known to her family as "Tunsie," passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the Village of Brookwood, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 15, 1929, in Alamance County to the late Clement "Clem" Wade Iseley and Lydia Alma Keck Iseley, and was the wife to the late Winford Jennings Berry, Jr. who died in 2023.

In her earlier years, Lydia embraced the role of a homemaker with grace and warmth, nurturing her family and supporting her children's numerous school activities and extracurricular pursuits. She also shared her gifts in education as a substitute teacher at AO Elementary and Western Alamance High School, where her encouragement was shown to many young learners. Lydia enjoyed reading and was active in the book club called "Study Forum". She devoted over twenty years of her career to Elon College, now Elon University, as a Library Clerk. Lydia enriched campus life through her activities with the Faculty Wives Club, fostering fellowship and learning among colleagues.

Lydia's creative talents were abundant—she was a skilled seamstress who found joy in sewing, and a passionate cook who delighted in baking, canning, and experimenting with new recipes. Together with her beloved husband, Jennings, she cherished traveling to forty-eight states, creating treasured memories throughout their seventy-two years of marriage.

A woman of faith and community spirit, Lydia attended Berea Christian Church. Her musical gifts flourished there for over two decades as both choir director and pianist, roles through which she touched many hearts. She also volunteered selflessly on various church committees.

Lydia’s legacy lives on through her loving children, Pamela Berry Aldridge and her husband Ken, and J. Warren Berry and his wife Freda Kuhfahl; her grandchildren, Jennings W. Berry, Jr. (Laura), Joseph L. Berry, James K. Aldridge (Kristie), Jon Michael Aldridge (Jennifer Chi), Katie Floyd (Kerry), and Amanda Kuhfahl (Austin); as well as her great-grandchildren, Katie Aldridge, Fletcher Aldridge, Matthew Jennings Berry, Mackenzie Berry, Carly Floyd and Cayla Floyd; and several nieces and nephews.

She has now been reunited with her family that preceded her in death, her parents; her devoted husband, Winford Jennings Berry, Jr.; and her siblings, Sara Stanfield, Ollie Mae Andrews, Ida Ruth Overby, an infant brother, Charlie Iseley and her infant twin brother, Daniel Wade Iseley.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the amazing staff and nurses at The Village of Brookwood for their dedication, loving care and support that was shown to their mother during her illness; and to the hospice staff for their compassionate care that was shown to her as well.

The funeral service to celebrate the life of Lydia will be held at 2:00PM Monday, March 23, 2026 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Jeff Smith. The family will receive friends from 12:30PM to 1:45PM Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. The burial at Magnolia Cemetery will be private for the family only.
