Mabel Cheek

Burlington, NC Mabel Richardson Cheek, age 94, formerly of Maple Avenue went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 30, 2007 at the hospice home. She was a native of Chatham County and the wife of the late Thede Burris Cheek. Mabel worked in full fashion hosiery at May Hosiery; managed the lunch counter at Alamance Drug and after becoming disabled, continued to do seamstress work at her home. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Mabel was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and was fortunate enough to see her 5th generation as a great great grandmother. She enjoyed gardening and loved flowers and shared this love and knowledge with her granddaughter. She also enjoyed playing the organ in her home and spent many hours playing it for her family and friends. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Harold L. Cheek and his wife, Betty of Burlington; granddaughter and her husband, Becky and Jerry Murray of South Carolina; great grandson and his wife, Clancy and Natasha Murray of Liberty; great great grandchildren, Presley and Jackson Murray of Liberty; sisters, Lucille Thomas of Greensboro, Faydeene Johnson and her husband, Burt of Siler City. She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Lucy Holcomb and Bertha Odum; brothers, Willard and Homard Richardson; parents, Barthey L. and Mary Woody Richardson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Reid Dickens and Rev. Neal Salter and the burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the funeral at the funeral home and other times at the home of her son, 1725 Deep Creek Church Road, Burlington, NC 27217.
