Mamie Byerly Summers

Mamie Lou Byerly Summers, 94, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born in Davidson County on May 24, 1932 to the late John Roby Byerly, Jr. and Rachel Elizabeth Hunt Byerly.

Mamie was a longtime member of Frieden’s Lutheran Church and served as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for Fire District 28 for over 30 years. Mamie enjoyed the simple things in life, she loved to fish and enjoyed watching her flower gardens grow. She was a farmer’s wife and cherished the 56 years she had with her late husband George Rufus Summers. Mamie loved her family, she also loved to sing, and often when times grew tough, she would start off with one of her favorites, “How Great Thou Art.”

Survivors include her daughters, Denese Foster, Wanda Simpson (Robert); grandchildren, Matthew Whitted, Renae Dudley (Eric), William Whitted; great grandchildren, Jenna, Jacob and Ryanna, Lucy and Maggie; brother, Roby Byerly. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter Byerly, Sr., Robert, Bassett, Roy and Hubert Byerly; sisters, Hazel Smith and Ethel Dorsett.

A funeral service to celebrate Mamie’s life will be held 12 noon on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Friedens Lutheran Church, Gibsonville, with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM-11:45 AM, and other times at the home.
