Marie Shambley

BURLINGTON- Marie Workman Shambley, age 73, of 2503 Columbine Lane went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health. A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late William "Billy" Parrish Workman and Roberta Page Workman Walker, and was married for over 55 years to the late Thomas Gordon Shambley. She loved flowers and enjoyed playing Rummy, but most of all, she loved her friends and family. Marie is survived by her five sons, Terry Glenn Shambley and his wife, Vivian Fields Shambley, of Burlington, David Wayne Shambley of Carolina Beach, Larry Dale Shambley and his wife, Donna Shreve Shambley, of Burlington, Thomas Gordon Shambley, Jr. of Burlington, and Douglas Olin Shambley and his wife, Jill Rains Shambley, of Elon; nine grandchildren, Ashleigh, Brandon, Christian, Nikki, Amber, Erica, Matthew, Chelsea and Brayden; three step grandchildren, Ethan and Emma Cox and Carla Cantrell; a step great grandchild, Bradley Reed; brothers, Robert Workman of Burlington, Leroy Walker of Lakeland, FL, Gene Walker of Gibsonville and Jimmy Roger Walker of Burlington; and sisters, Linda Britt of Burlington and Layfoy Moore of Elon. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; a son, Ricky Thomas Shambley; a step grandson, Richard Cantrell, Jr.; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Workman Eten and Naomi W. Coleman; and brothers, Henry Thomas Workman and James Louis Workman. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at West Burlington Church of God by the Rev. Olin Tatum. Interment will follow at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery.
