Elon Marvin Lee King left us on April 21, 2009 to be with his Lord and Savior after a 15 month illness. He was born September 9, 1929 in Roxboro to parents Clyde Lee King and Mabel Clayton King both deceased. He has a deceased brother, Clyde Leon King. He leaves behind a wife of 58 years, Kay Moore King of Elon. He has one living brother, John Wesley King of Roxboro. His children and in-laws are Nancy K. and Ralph Gilliam of Elon, David and Tammy King of Gibsonville, Brad and Lori King of West Lawn, PA, Kathy K. and John Hines of Elon and Scott and Kelly King of Glen Allen, VA. He was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren; Michael, Paul, Lee and Katie Gilliam, Emilee King, Hunter and Morgan King, Landon Hines, and Blake, Davis and Molly King. Marvin served honorably in the Army during the Korean War and graduated from Elon University. He retired from Burlington Industries. We affectionately called him "Grandie". Grandie was strong in his Christian faith, loved his family, his country, his church and Duke. During his years as a member of First United Methodist Church in Elon, he taught Jr. High Sunday School and the Men's Class and was the chair of the Administrative Board. He was an active member of the Methodist Men and enjoyed cooking for their many breakfast meetings. He also served on the board of the Elon Fire Department and a member of the Elon Exchange Club. He enjoyed telling jokes, playing pranks, Big Band music, old movies, camping, fishing at the beach, and gardening. Most of all he loved special time with his family. We all love you and are going to miss you "Grandie". The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 24, 2009 at First United Methodist Church Elon by Rev. Terry Huffines with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Thursday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
