Mrs. Mary Ellen Shaw Boyles, age 90, formerly of Gibsonville, died Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Twin Lakes Health Care Center. A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late James Earl Shaw and the late Mary Susan Cook Shaw and was married to the late Burrell Clarence "Petie" Boyles, Jr., who died in 2003. Mary Ellen graduated from East Carolina University and was a teacher with the Guilford County School System until retirement. She was an active member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the United Methodist Women and was also a volunteer with the Hospice League. Mrs. Boyles is survived by her two daughters, Susan Kinney and her husband, Phil, of Gibsonville and Carolyn Younger and her husband, Charles, of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Karen Key Lugo, Scott Key, Emily Younger and Mary Ward Boerner; three great grandchildren, Logan Wells, Ryker Lugo and Jake Lugo; and a sister, Kathryn Miller of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her brother, James C. Shaw. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Gibsonville United Methodist Church by Rev. Jonathan Marlow and Dr. David Greene. The family will receive friends following the service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Letvak and the staff of Twin Lakes for the loving and thoughtful care extended to Mary Ellen during her stay there. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Gibsonville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 82, Gibsonville, NC 27249, Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 or to the Twin Lakes Auxiliary, 3701 Wade Coble Dr, Burlington, NC 27215-9743.
