Mary DeViney Walker, a beloved caregiver and cherished family member, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, at Alamance Healthcare Center. Born on March 14, 1937, in Randolph County, North Carolina, Mary dedicated her life to serving others with a compassion that touched the lives of many.
For over twelve years, Mary worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Alamance County Hospital, where her kind spirit and unwavering dedication made a lasting impact. Following her time at the hospital, she served as a school nurse for the Caswell County School System, always ready to lend a helping hand to her students and their families. Her career was marked by a natural desire to assist those in need, a passion that defined her personal life as well.
Mary was deeply involved in her community and attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where her faith provided her with strength and comfort. More than anything, she found joy in helping those around her, often going above and beyond to ensure that someone in need received the care and support they deserved.
Mary shared many wonderful memories traveling with her late husband, Dr. Lawrence Calvin Walker, who predeceased her in 2018. Together, they explored new places alongside close friends, enriching their lives with countless experiences. An avid collector of antiques, Mary found much joy in browsing antique stores, where she would seek out unique treasures that expressed her deep appreciation for history. Her love for animals was evident, showcasing her gentle nature and nurturing heart.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her extended family, including her children, Shannon Christopher Bryant and Faith Bryant. She leaves behind her brother, John DeViney, along with his wife, Ann, who shared in the memories and laughter of family gatherings. Among her treasured relatives are her nieces, Susan and Michelle; her nephew, Todd DeViney; and her great niece, Samantha, and great nephew, Cody, who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts.
Mary has now been reunited with her parents, John Vestal DeViney and Maggie Eller Pulliam DeViney; her loving husband, Dr. Lawrence Walker; her canine companion, Sparky who gave her companionship through the years; as well as her brother, Edward DeViney.
As we gather to celebrate the life of Mary DeViney Walker, we remember her not just for the roles she played but for the love and kindness she extended to every soul she encountered.
