Mary Jane Justice, a cherished member of her community known for her devotion to family, faith, and service, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, at her residence. She was born on December 18, 1933, in Alamance County and lived a life marked by commitment and heartfelt generosity.
Mary Jane's early career included work at Sears, Mr. C's Hot Dogs and Gas, and Cracker Barrel in Burlington. Beyond her professional endeavors, she devoted herself to various causes and organizations, notably holding offices in the VFW 10607 Auxiliary and volunteering at the Durham VA Medical Center. Her dedication extended across the country as she traveled with firefighters and their wives, supporting numerous golf programs related to their efforts.
A woman of deep faith, Mary Jane embraced her spiritual journey at a young age, joining First Presbyterian Church at just 13 years old. Her active participation included serving as a junior Sunday School teacher, holding various leadership roles in the women's circle as circle leader, engaging in mission work, singing in the choir, and ultimately serving as an elder. She also found joy and fellowship in attending Mt. Zion Christian Church and Cross Roads Presbyterian Church later in life.
Mary Jane's proudest accomplishments reflected her unwavering commitment to veterans’ programs. She held every office in The American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 63 in Burlington and had the distinguished honor of serving as state president in 1998 and 1999.
She was a loving and devoted family member who treasured her time with those closest to her. Her survivors include her son, Coy Lee Justice Jr., and his wife, Dana; grandchildren Tiffany and Stephanie Justice; great-grandchildren Destiny and Melody Rane; and a special friend who was like a daughter, Toni Bowman.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Coy Lee Justice Sr.; her parents, Howard Waddell and Helen Cybrynski Waddell; her son, James Justice; her sister, Shirley Hollar; and her brother, Tommy Waddell.
