Mary Jean Dew, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, was born on November 8, 1964, in Alamance County. She was a shining light in the lives of all who were fortunate to know her. Mary went home to be with the Lord on November 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith.
Mary's life was characterized by her deep passion for service. She had a big heart and dedicated much of her time to church and community initiatives, participating in several missionary trips that allowed her to spread joy and hope to those in need. She embodied the spirit of compassion, demonstrating an extraordinary ability to bring comfort and support to others.
An avid sports fan, Mary had an unwavering loyalty to her favorite teams, the Texas Longhorns and the Carolina Tarheels. Her excitement would light up any gathering, bringing friends and family together in spirited discussions about their latest games. Yet, it was her love for sports that was only overshadowed by her fondness for animals, nurturing not just her pets but also animals she came in contact with outside of her home.
Mary's family, her pride and joy, included her sisters, Faith Dew and Susan Wrenn, and her brother, Richard Dew. Alongside them stood numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, each of whom she cherished dearly. Her playful spirit and gentle wisdom made her a favorite aunt, etched in their hearts forever. She was preceded in death by her mother, Janice Elaine Somerset Dew, who was a significant influence in her life and whose memory she honored through her own kindness and compassion.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Mary’s life during visitation on Friday, November 7, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and also from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm Saturday, November 8, 2025 prior to the funeral service celebrating her life and her birthday at 1:00 pm at Glen Raven Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Sean Fitzgerald. The burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. Immediately following the graveside service, everyone is invited to share with the family in celebrating Mary's Birthday at Glen Raven Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
While we mourn the physical absence of Mary from our lives, we find comfort in our faith, knowing that her vibrant spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. In our hearts and memories, Mary Jean Dew will forever remain a source of love, laughter, and an example of unwavering devotion to those she held dear.
