Mavis Couch White

Mavis Ruth Couch White, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at Liberty Commons after several months of failing health. She was born in St. Paul, VA on October 20, 1934 to the late James Patton Couch and Mary Tennessee Reedy Couch and was the wife to the late Lloyd Britton White.

For over 30 years, Mavis was the owner/operator of Sew N' Sew Alterations, where she became known throughout the community for her remarkable skills and attention to detail. Her professional journey began at Clinch Valley Hospital in Richlands, Virginia, before she took on roles at Cone Mills in Gibsonville and later served in alterations at Belk's Department Store. Mavis was of the Pentecostal faith and remained active in her church community. She found joy in singing in the choir and dedicated her time to teaching Sunday School.

Mavis is survived by her son, Tony White (Shelby Pike), Craig White (Michelle); daughters, Teresa Thomas (Don), Kimberly Newnam (Craig); grandchildren, Jessi Way (Travis), Crissy Butler (Daniel), T.J. White (Stephanie), Barry Thomas, Kyle Thomas, Jacob Newnam, Jason Newnam, Will White; several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six brothers and four sisters.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Mark Hurt and Mr. Ken Johnson with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:45 prior to the service at the funeral home.
