Melinda “Gay” Brown Morris, born September 8, 1959, in Alamance County, NC, passed away peacefully at her residence on April 26, 2026. She was a cherished soul who brought beauty and care into the world through her work in horticulture and as a hairstylist.
Gay’s faith was a guiding light in her life. She was an active attendee at Hillside Presbyterian Church and later found a spiritual home at Friendship Church in Burlington, where she lifted spirits in the church choir and occasionally taught Sunday School.
Known for her creativity, Gay found joy in knitting, crocheting, gardening, and crafting her own soap. These hobbies reflected her love for handmade treasures and were fostered by her many years living on the family farmland. Her fierce and creative spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Jessica Scott Mapes (Nathan), Megan Scott Robinson (Brett), Sam Scott (Cheyenne), and J.C. Morris; her step-sons, Andy Morris (Jennan) and Matt Morris; thirteen grandchildren Linus and Elliot Mapes, Alysan and Kailyn Gerringer, Emila Owens, Ethan Robinson, Jaxon, Everly and Aeowyn Scott, Sierra, Erin, Ryan Morris, and Lauren Gallanthen; a sister Pat Brown; a brother Ray Brown (Cynthia); and her devoted canine companion, "Obee". Gay was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Craig Morris; her grandson, Aiden Morris; her parents, John C. and Larestine Crawford Brown; and a sister, Johnnie Haver Brown.
The family would like to extend a special thanks for the care given to Mrs. Morris during her illness from UNC Hospice and Southern Comfort Homecare.
The family will conduct a Celebration of Life at a later date.
