Melissa "Lisa" Hancock Carter

Melissa “Lisa” Hancock Carter, age 62, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 27, 2025, after a courageous four year battle with ovarian cancer.

Lisa fought with determination, courage, bravery and unwavering hope, inspiring everyone who knew her. Throughout her life Lisa embodied kindness and compassion. Her generosity knew no bounds.

Lisa was a devoted wife, mother, sister, nana and friend. Lisa was resilient and tough when she needed to be but you always knew where you stood with her.

Lisa enjoyed making crocheted blankets for her siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She crocheted hats and scarves for the cancer center. Lisa planted a garden and canned vegetables that she loved to share with her family and friends,

Melissa “Lisa” Hancock Carter is survived by her husband, David Allen Lewis as well as her children, Nakia “Nicky” Carter Burr (Chuck), Carrie Carter Brame (Keith), Jason Leigh Carter and Daniel Wade Carter (Melissa); her step children, AJ Lewis and Kenneth “Jacob” Lewis (Kaylee). She had 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Lisa is also survived by her brother, James “Eddie” Hancock, Jr. (Renee); her sisters, Shellee Harrison (Danny) and Jeri Dale Chrisley (Keith) and half siblings, Butch Hancock (Cathy), Edward Lee Hancock, Mike Hancock (Nina) and Tiffany Mustard (Brandon) and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Melissa “Lisa” Hancock Carter was preceded in death by her, father, James Edward Hancock, her mother, Linda Sue Shumate and her horse, Chatty.

Lisa’s strength, love, courage and selflessness will always be remembered. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all those who knew her, and her strength will continue to inspire generations to come.

May Melissa “Lisa” Hancock Carter rest in eternal peace free from cancer and pain. May she be remembered for the love and light she brought into the lives of others.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 5-7PM at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory for family and friends. The family will be at the home at other times.
