Whitsett - Melvin Lewis Brown, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 8, 1947 in Guilford County to the late Andy Alexander and Mary Elizabeth Davis Brown.
Melvin was employed with Watson Electric for many years and owned and operated Brown Electric until his retirement. He was of the Presbyterian faith and enjoyed helping people. He was a farmer and operated a saw mill along with his brothers. Melvin was an old car enthusiast and an avid fisherman. He loved his dogs, “Callie”, “Sally”, “Sadie”, “Bruno” and “Mac Mac”. Melvin enjoyed being with his family especially his grandkids and great grandkids.
Melvin is survived by his daughters, Tina Flinchum of the home and Linda Simmons and husband, Dale of Burlington; grandchildren, Dale Simmons, Jr. and significant other, Garrison Epes, Donna Stinson and husband Dustin, Tabitha Caldwell and husband Tyler, Stephanie Flinchum and fiancé, Brian Pitman; great grandchildren, Landon, Layton, Lillian and Lennox Simmons, Mackenzie, Maddison, Morgan and Mason Stinson, Kayden Derosier, Caitlyn Skye Pitman, Madalyn Rose Pitman and Abigail Violet Pitman; a sister, Clara Combs of Burlington and a special friend and caregiver, Penny Parker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Sandra Brown and mother of his children; son-in-law, Jerry Flinchum, Sr. and special grandsons, Michael Lee Brown and Jerry Lee “Joey” Flinchum and a great granddaughter, Kaylee Derosier; sisters, Vallie Palmer and Pauline Duckworth; brothers, Andy Dale Brown, Sr., Bobby Brown and James Brown.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Penny Parker his caregiver and to all the hospice nurses for all their loving care and compassion that was shown to Melvin during his illness. A special companion and care giver for serveral years, Julie Isley.
A service to celebrate Melvin’s life will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Rodney Wright with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Monday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
