Michael "Mike" Richard Goebelbecker, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence on July 17, 2026.

Born on October 7, 1981, in Guilford County, North Carolina, Mike’s journey through life was marked by deep devotion, accomplishment, and a spirit that left a lasting impact on all w ho had the privilege to know him.

From his earliest days, Mike lit up every room he entered, his booming voice, infectious laugh, intelligence and quick wit setting him apart as a natural born leader. He pursued higher education with dedication, earning an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, preparing him for a future shaped by innovation and resourcefulness.

But it was Mike’s commitment to his country that truly defined much of his adult life. He served faithfully in the U.S. Army for 23 years, dedicating himself to the values of honor, integrity, and service. Rising through the ranks to retire as a Master Sergeant, Mike inspired countless men and women under his command, always taking time to be a good mentor as much as a good friend. His leadership was not born only of authority, but of genuine care, as he guided and uplifted those around him both on and off the field.

Mike’s military awards and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and Combat Action Badge.

Passion infused every aspect of Mike’s life. He was a master smoker, specializing in Texas style BBQ and he loved sharing his culinary creations with family and friends — a plate prepared by Mike was always an invitation to gather and to celebrate life together. Music filled his home, as did the rev of fast cars—a thrill he never tired of—and the quiet comfort of his beloved animals. Mike lived out loud, loved obscure movies, loud music, and possessed the rare gift of making every gathering brighter, every friendship deeper.

Outside of his professional achievements, Mike found immense joy in the warmth of family and the pursuit of his passions. He is survived by his wife, Kim Soderberg Goebelbecker, sons, Eli and Asher, parents, Richard and Kathryn Goebelbecker, sister; Melissa Cason and husband, Tim. As well as nieces and nephews; Skyla, Evan, Noah, and Ellie Kate.

His laughter, insight, and compassion touched innumerable lives. He was a mentor to many, steadfast and sincere, and his friends knew that they could depend on him for guidance, support, and genuine companionship. He will be deeply and endlessly missed by all who knew and loved him.

There will be a private graveside service at Salisbury National Cemetery at a later date.
