Michael Edison Rascoe, 82, passed away on May 21, 2025, at Liberty Commons. Born on November 14, 1942, in Alamance County, North Carolina, Michael was the son of the late James Alexander and Dorothy Stutts Rascoe.
Michael proudly served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1967, spending time stationed in Germany during a transformative period of his life. His service instilled in him values of dedication and resilience that he carried with him throughout his years.
His passion for life extended beyond his military service. He had a wide range of interests, finding camaraderie on the basketball court at Pleasant Grove, enjoying the excitement of winning honour board golf tournaments at Indooroopilly Golf Course, and developing a passion for Australian sports. Known for his strategic mind, he was also an excellent bridge player both in the United States and Australia, demonstrating his ability to connect with others through friendly competition.
For more than 40 years, Michael resided in Australia, where both of his daughters were born. He moved back to the United States to help his mother before her passing.
Michael is survived by his daughters; Stephanie Rascoe and her husband Peter and Olivia Rascoe and her husband David, grandchildren; Cooper and Zoe Hunt–Sharp and Angus and Hugh Rascoe-Parton. Michael was predeceased in death by his parents, James Alexander Rascoe and Dorothy Stutts Rascoe, as well as his brother, William Stephen Rascoe.
Stephanie and Peter would like to thank those family and friends who have provided much love and support to Micheal since returning to Burlington NC, in particular Michael’s best friend Russell and his wife Mary-Lee Cooper, cousins Barney Jnr and his wife Rene Stutts, Keith Stutts, Nancy, Dennis (deceased), Robert and Patricia Hughes, Pat and Ernie Copple and school friend Deanna Tate. They would also like to thank Liberty Commons Nursing Staff for their care.
