Myrtle Walker

Mrs. Myrtle Mitchell Walker, age 83, formerly of 8782 NC 62 South, Yanceyville, went home to be with the Lord on August 27, 2005 at Danville Medical Center after several years of failing health. A native of Alamance County, she was wife of the late Wallace Levi Walker and daughter of the late Jesse James and Cora Price Mitchell. At age five, following her parents death, she was reared by Carl and Nora Sutton, who taught her independence, a love for cooking, sewing, gardening and being a good neighbor. Myrtle was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was retired from J. Spencer Love Hosiery. Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Pamela Herring and husband Tommy of Graham; son Wally Walker and wife Sharon of Yanceyville; grandchildren, Amy Hadwin and husband Wayne, Mitch Walker, Alarie Walker and Ridge Walker; great grandchild, Alyssea Hadwin; sister, Mrs. Ruth Rich of Mebane; brother, Frank Sutton of Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Jesse Mitchell, Charles Mitchell, Zeb Mitchell, Joe Mitchell, Holt Sutton, Jr., Ralph Sutton; sisters, Ettie Mae Swaim, Alma Gilliam and Ethel McPherson. The Walker family wants to express their appreciation for the love and care given Myrtle by McCray Comfort Inn and during the past several months by Rudd Ridge Family Care. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel United Church of Christ by Elder Wallis Smith and the burial will follow at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Walker will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 PM Monday and at other times at the home of her son, 8354 Hwy. 62 South, Yanceyville, NC.
