Greensboro

Audra Nicole Oakley Wood, age 41, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed from this earthly life on Saturday, July 11, 2026. Nicole is the loving mother of her son, Dillon James Wood and her daughter, Macie Nicole Wood. She is the daughter of Stanley and Sheree Oakley. Her siblings are Julie [Chris] Freese and Joseph [Briana] Oakley. She is the granddaughter of Freddie J. Oakley. Grandparents who preceded her in death are James L. Anderson, Billie Clayton Mangum, and Iris T. Oakley.

Nicole spent her early childhood years in Anderson and Prospect Hill, North Carolina where she lived and attended the Caswell Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in a loving community surrounded by her family, great-grandparents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. At six years old she moved with her family to Greensboro where she made dear friends at school, church, and in her neighborhood. In 1996, Nicole moved with her family to Kobe, Japan and lived there for 4 ½ years. She attended the international school Canadian Academy where she made dear friends of various nationalities, learned to speak and write Japanese, played soccer and basketball, and enjoyed many cultural experiences.

After their time in Japan, Nicole’s family moved to Liberty Township, Ohio where she attended church at the Liberty Ward and graduated from Lakota East High School. Following her high school graduation, she earned a nursing degree from Miami University of Ohio.

Nicole had a wonderful twenty-one year career as a kind and dedicated nurse serving children at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Brenner Children’s Hospital, Henrico Doctor’s Hospital, and various pediatric care facilities.

She found joy in music of many types including pop, 90’s rock, country, reggaeton, hip hop, and R&B. She especially enjoyed listening to and singing along with her beautiful voice while driving with her sun roof open and feeling the wind blowing through her hair.

Nicole loved nature and enjoyed taking long walks and relaxing on a beach. She cherished the beauty of sunrises and sunsets, very often taking photos of them. She loved good food and going to restaurants! Favorite cuisines included Thai, Japanese, Indian, American, Mexican, and more. She enjoyed traveling to foreign countries and learning about their cultures. Nicole loved her friends and found joy spending time with them. She loved many things but the loves of her life are her children. From her earliest years she wanted to have children, one boy and one girl, she would say. She devoted herself to the care and happiness of her children. In her own words, she said “I am thankful for precious moments with my children–snuggles at bedtime or while watching Seinfeld, and when they telI me “I’m the Best!” and that I am Macie’s best friend. She loved her children with all her heart.

Nicole loved and brought joy to many people. How blessed are those who knew her and felt that love and joy.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, July 18, 2026 at the Caswell Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:45 PM at the church prior to the service.
