Patricia Casey Johnson

Patricia Casey Johnson, 90, of Burlington, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.

A native of Durham, she went to Bragtown High School in Durham and attended Central Wesleyan College in Central, SC.

She taught classes in cake decorating and how to make lighted Christmas balls at Alamance Community College. For her 75th birthday, she parachuted out of a plane at Carolina Sky Sports in Franklinton. She said that day was the happiest day of her life except for when her children were born.

She was an avid swimmer and roller skater in her younger days and loved animals. She grew up next to a horse farm and often rode horses with her brothers and sisters. She always had dogs and cats and was a dog trainer and groomer while in high school, traveling around the state to get dogs ready for shows.

She had the lead in her high school senior class play and won first place in a speech contest about world peace offered by the Durham Jaycees.

She is survived by three children, Sondra Johnson Casey of Burlington, Dennis Lee Johnson of Atlanta, and Janice Marie Johnson of Burlington; three grandchildren, Benjamin Lee Johnson (Sarah) of Duluth, GA, Miriam Troseth (Joshua) of Buford, GA, and Brent Johnson (Nichole) of Roswell, GA; four great-grandchildren, Rosemary Ellen Troseth, Josiah Brian Troseth, and Peter Samuel Troseth, all of Buford, GA; and Evangeline Rose Johnson of Roswell, GA.

Her husband, Edwin Dowd Johnson, a native of Roxboro, died 10 years ago at the age of 87. They met in college.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma Tillie O’Neal Casey and her father, John Robert Casey, and by her sister, Billie Jean Williams, and her brothers, Bobbie Casey and Jack Casey.

She was of the Wesleyan Methodist faith and attended Bible Wesleyan Church in Graham. The Reverend Brian Covert and Nadine Covert were treasured friends. Jean Mann Deaton and Ann Curtis were also valued friends, visiting often and providing great comfort during her final days. The family expresses tremendous appreciation to AuthoraCare Collective Hospice of Alamance County, especially to Anna and Kendra for their tender loving care and knowledge in all things.

The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 PM on Friday, January 6, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will be private.
