Paul Wayne Aydt, 91, went home to be with the Lord and sing in the heavenly choir on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. He was born in Dahlgren, IL on February 22, 1921 to the late William Albert and Verla Beatrice Hunt Aydt and was the husband of 66 years to the late Ruth Frances Matherly Aydt. Paul retired from Burlington Industries after 42 years of service. He was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church, Harper Burke Sunday School class, the Board of Deacons and the church choir. Paul was a U.S. Navy Veteran during WWII where he served first in the Pacific and then the Atlantic-North Africa and Italy. Mr. Aydt was very proud to be a participant in the last "Flight of Honor" honoring WWII veterans. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Paul is survived by his daughters, Gayle Jule Terrell and Cindy J.W. King, Jr., both of Burlington; grandchildren, Carren Ron Thomas, Lynn William Murray, Jon Robin Terrell, Ryan King and Nick King; great grandchildren, Christopher Eleni Murray, Brooke Porterfield, Brian Porterfield, Kayla Terrell, Kylie Terrell, Karley Thomas and Casey Thomas; brothers, Marion Louis JoAnn Aydt of Moulton, AL, Bobby Hall of CA and a sister, Martha Ann Matthai of Essex, MD. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; brothers, William Aydt and Richard Clayton Aydt and sisters, Ruth Odem and Louise Steele. The graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Pine Hill Cemetery by Rev. Larry Redding. The family will receive friends from 9:30 - 10:45 AM Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory prior to the service and other times at the daughter's home, Gayle Terrell, 640 Hiawatha Place, Burlington. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and the Patriot Guard. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice, especially "Dr." Charles Harrellson, Ginger Furmage and Tina for taking such good care of Mr. Aydt.
