Paul McKinley Loy

Paul McKinley Loy, 49, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, MD.

Paul lived a life defined by humility and selflessness. He was a man of few words, yet his strong spirit could bring people together. Throughout his life, he forged lifelong relationships and was known for his capacity to connect with others.

A proud veteran, Paul dedicated 27 years to serving his country in the United States Army, achieving the rank of E7 Sergeant First Class. His military career included roles as a 12B Combat Engineer, 77F Petroleum Supply Specialist, 88P Railway Equipment Repairer, 00G Suicide Prevention NCO, and a 79R Army Recruiter. His commitment and expertise earned him numerous awards and commendations for his exemplary service during foreign missions, which took him to various locations throughout Europe and the Middle East. Throughout these experiences, Paul made many friends and built connections that spanned the globe.

In addition to his military service, Paul had a variety of interests that brought him joy. He loved video games and enjoyed building various LEGO sets. He also enjoyed trips to the beach, camping, swimming and binge-watching movies especially at the movie theater. As a whiskey connoisseur, Paul took great pleasure in sharing his extensive knowledge of whiskey with those around him, forging bonds over a shared appreciation of this refined beverage.

Paul is survived by his wife of 28 years, Bobbie DuBois Loy; son, Jason William Loy; daughter, Abigail Marie Rotenberry (Ronnie); mother, Julianne Ray Vincent; step sister, Amy Vincent Whitfield; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins and his canine companion, “Tango”. He was preceded in death by father, Kemp “Kenny” Loy, Jr.; stepfather, Willard Vincent, Jr.; paternal grandparents, Kemp Loy, Sr. and Norma Loy; maternal grandparents, Tony “Rufus” Ray, Sr. and Ethel Redmon Ray; step grandmother, Eva Vincent; step grandfather, Willard Vincent, Sr. and a step brother, David “Kirk” Vincent.

Paul leaves behind a legacy of dedication, friendship, and devotion to both his country and his loved ones. His ability to bring people together and form meaningful relationships will be a cherished memory for all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held at 10:00AM on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Friendship United Methodist Church by Rev. Mike Kelley. The burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
