Mrs. Peggy Joyce Ray Wright, a beloved wife, devoted mother, adoring grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the age of 85.
Peggy was born in Danville, Virginia, the cherished daughter of the late Robert H. Ray and Christine Pendegraph Ray. Her journey began in Haw River, where she graduated from Haw River High School and became a valued member of Piedmont Presbyterian Church. After dedicating 21 years of her career to Kayser-Roth Corporation, she also enjoyed enriching the lives of children at Alexander Wilson Elementary School and guiding others at the Diet Center in Burlington.
In her well-deserved retirement, Peggy found joy in quick summer getaways to Kerr Lake with her grandson and adventurous travels across the United States with her husband, Don "Pepsi," and lifelong pals, Thomas and Peggy Holt. While these experiences brought her happiness, it was her family that truly filled her heart with enduring love and joy.
Peggy is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-three years, Don; her loving daughter, Lorri (Steve Morgan); her treasured grandson, Christopher (Emily); and her beautiful great-grandchildren, Levi, Mackenzie, and Silas Morgan. She also leaves behind her brother, Steve Ray (Teresa); sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Faye Wright (Fred), Tom and Annette McAdams; nephews Tony Ward (MaryAnn), Chris Ray, James McAdams (Angie); nieces Sharon Ward, Jamie Wright Price (Lane), Jennifer Wright Peoples (Mark); many great nieces and nephews; and her dear lifelong friend, Hazel Sharpe.
Peggy was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Annie Mae Wright; father-in-law, James H. Wright; her brothers, Jim Ray and Ernest Ray; a sister, Iris Ward; her brother-in-law, Fred Wright; and a nephew, Gary Ward.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Mebane Ridge Memory Care, the thoughtful Gentiva Hospice team, and the compassionate members of Piedmont Presbyterian Church, who provided unwavering support during this time. Your calls and visits were a great comfort.
The funeral service to celebrate Peggy’s remarkable life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Cindy Ingle, with burial to follow at Graham Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home, and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Lorri and Steve.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Piedmont Presbyterian Church, 1001 Rainey Street, Burlington, NC 27215, Gentiva Hospice, 2730 Tucker Street Suite, #600, Burlington, NC 27215, or to the Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia Association at www.alz.org.
