Mr. Philip Melvin "Phil" Kinney, age 63, of 801 Lee St., died Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health. Born in Guilford County, he was the son of the late Melvin Tuttle Kinney and the late Beatrice West Kinney and was married for over 36 years to Mrs. Susan Boyles Kinney, who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Navel reserves for several years. He was the Owner of Mid-South Textiles until his retirement in 2006. Phil was a member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church and served faithfully as an usher for many years. Mr. Kinney is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Karen Key Lugo and her husband, James, of Raleigh; a son Scott Key and his fiance, Kelsey Gibbs of Wrightsville Beach; two grandsons, Ryker Lugo and Jake Lugo; a sister, Jill K. Weaver of Charlotte; and a brother, John Kinney of Burlington. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, February 18, 2013 at Gibsonville United Methodist Church by Rev. Jonathan D. Marlowe, Dr. David Greene and Rev. Jim Bowen. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary following the service and other times at the residence.
