Mrs. Phyllis Tinsley Haddad, 87, of 508 Shadowbrook Ct., died peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several months of failing health. A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, she was the wife of Salim Haddad, deceased, and the daughter of Thomas Tinsley and Maud Tinsley, both deceased. She is survived by two daughters, Haddya Nye and her husband, Gregory, of Wethersfield, CT and Edwina Haddad of Burlington; a son, David Haddad of Burlington; two grandsons, Alexander Nye and Jonathan Nye of Wethersfield, CT; a sister, Maud Agnes Maleiner of Sao Paulo, Brazil and several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins both in the United States and Brazil. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Ivy, and two brothers, Larry and Claude, all of Brazil. She attended a Brazilian college and was proficient in 4 languages. After moving to the United States, she became a lifelong homemaker a role that she absolutely cherished. In recent years, she looked forward to summer beach vacations with her children and grandchildren and family get togethers during the Christmas holidays in Connecticut. In addition to her grandchildren, she was especially fond of her godchildren Chantal Dennis McKinney, Paul Dennis, Claire Dennis, and their mother, Evelyn Morales. She was a strong believer of the Christian faith, reading the Bible and other spiritual books on a daily basis. She also enjoyed playing the piano, singing, and listening to religious music. She had quite an adventurous spirit and until recent years would travel by herself to Brazil and within the United States. While in Brazil, she would participate in charitable work through an orphanage program that was dear to her heart. In recent years, she also looked forward to her weekly visits with her dear friends at the Kernodle Senior Center exercise facility. Throughout her life she demonstrated a positive attitude even in the face of adversity. The family would like to thank the caring professionals at Moses Cone Hospital and Alamance Regional Medical Center including Dr. Gregory Hayes, Dr. Kenneth Fath, Pam Boles, Sylvia Williams, and the nursing and respiratory staff at the ARMC Critical Care Unit. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, April 11, 2008 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Daniel H. Kuhn, Jr. of Elon Community Church United Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Magnolia cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 Friday afternoon, April 11, 2008, prior to the service at the funeral home.
