Randal Moore Scoggins, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend passed from his earthly home and entered his eternal home in glory with Jesus Christ his Savior on Wed, June 24, 2026. Randy fought a lengthy battle against Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) lung disease, diabetes, RA and in the end congestive heart failure and renal failure. He had a massive hemorrhagic stroke when he was 45 that began his health struggles. Randy was a fighter and he continued to live despite many close calls over the years. His final wish was to die at home, which was made possible by Authoracare Hospice, and their very kind and caring nurses and CNAs. The family would like to especially thank nurse Tina and Aide Lesli for their kind and gentle care.

Born on Sept 20, 1959 to Ralph Parker Scoggins and Mabel Gray Moore Scoggins, he was the youngest of four boys. Randy graduated from Dudley High School in Greensboro NC and following graduation began working for Shamrock Gravure Products. He held various positions over the years eventually being promoted to the Lead Operator of the perforation department. He operated lasers that were used to perforate the paper used for cigarette tipping. Randy traveled to Germany for two weeks in the mid 1990s to train on these very complicated lasers. He was considered the top operator on these delicate machines.

Randy was introduced to a young woman who worked at the Mayberry Ice Cream and Sandwich shop and over time they became friends and eventually they started dating. This young woman was Linda Stambaugh and though they were very different in every possible way, they were married at 7 am on Dec 15, 1979 in the 100 year old church at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, NC.

Randy grew up in the city, but loved the outdoors. His dream was to own land in the county where his kids would be able to play in the woods and explore. Randy and Linda worked hard and scrimped and saved and in 1983 they purchased 7.75 acres in SE Guilford County in the Mt Hope community in Julian. They lived there for the next 30 years in a home they planned and constructed together. They raised their children; Jessica Gray, born in 1985, and Jacob Randal, born in 1991. Randy was a great, hands-on dad. He loved playing with his kids and teaching them both to fish and target shoot when they were old enough. For 30 years, he left for work at 4 am and worked 10-12 hour shifts to provide for his family.

In August of 2005, Randy suffered a major hemorrhagic stroke while at work. He was in the NICU for 30 days and nearly died several times, but he fought hard and God spared his life. Several years later, Randy was able to return to the work that he loved and he worked another 7 years before being placed on permanent disability. Over time his health issues worsened and he was diagnosed with IPF. Again, Randy fought hard through many episodes of double pneumonia, worsened by his IPF and frequent, often lengthy hospital stays. Randy was cared for by many doctors, but pulmonologist Dr. Herbon Fleming became more than a doctor to Randy and Linda. He tried many times to get Randy approved for a lung transplant, but his numerous health issues caused him not to be a viable candidate.

Before his health failed, Randy was an avid fisherman and gun enthusiast. His son Jacob shared this passion and frequently, they could be found together fishing for crappie and bass on Lake Macintosh.

Randy was also a follower of Christ. He was saved at VBS during his middle school years. As an adult, he and Linda took an “Experiencing God” class led by retired pastor Jay Bolejack. During this class, Randy was convicted and rededicated his life to Christ and was baptized along with his son Jacob on Dec 13, 1998. It was then that Randy began to grow as a Christian. Randy was a member of Calvary Baptist in McLeansville NC, served as a Team Kid Coach, and was on the mowing team. He was a member of the Helping Hands Sunday School Class and was on the church bowling league.

Randy’s health caused him to be homebound for much of the last 10 years of his life. He was on oxygen and was very limited physically. Linda chose to retire in 2022 so that she could be his caregiver. During his final hospital stay, they decided to choose hospice and go home so that Linda could care for him and so he would be able to die at home.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph P. Scoggins and Mable Moore Scoggins, as well as a brother Richard O’Neal Scoggins (Betty), son-in-law, Brandon Bullis (Jessica), and sister-in-law, Karen Scoggins (Philip). He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda S. Scoggins of the home, two brothers; R. Penn Scoggins (Linda Kaye) and Philip Scoggins. Children; Jessica Gray Scoggins, and Jacob Randal Scoggins (Hannah). Grandchildren; Sierra Gray Bullis, Wyatt Gray Bullis, Dawson Randal Scoggins, and Gwen Rosey Scoggins.

A memorial service to celebrate Randy’s life will be held Sat, June 27 at 1 pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 5585 Burlington Road, McLeansville, NC 27301, Pastor Josh Eller officiating. The family will have visitation immediately following the service in the church lobby.
