Ray Andrew "Andy" Whitesell, Jr. was born on April 24, 1958, in Alamance County. He went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at ARMC, surrounded by the love of his family. Andy was a dedicated and hard-working individual whose career spanned over three decades as a carpenter with Ray Whitesell Contractors, following his beginnings as a welder. His commitment to his profession and his community had a lasting impact that will be remembered by many.
A true nature enthusiast, Andy found joy in the great outdoors, whether he was engaged in work or leisure. He cherished activities such as water and snow skiing, bike riding, and trips to the lake and the mountains. His love for roller skating was a particular delight, showcasing his zest for life. He also had a deep affection for animals and enjoyed spending quality time with his family, especially during cherished holiday gatherings.
Andy is survived by his beloved wife, Sue Russell Whitesell; children, Melissa and Stephanie McVay; grandchildren, Brittny Reid, Haley Mitcham, and Taylor Mitcham; great grandchildren, Logan, Harper, Emery, Kyree, and Leon. He also leaves behind his sister, Fran Smith (Jeff); his brother, Jimmy Whitesell (Tammy); his parents, Ray and Carolyn Whitesell; as well as a niece, Kristian Jordan (Paul); and numerous nephews, including Brad Smith (Sarah Ellis), Will Smith (Avery), and Casey Whitesell.
The visitation for Andy will take place on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, starting at 12:45 PM and concluding at 1:45 PM at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory. A service to celebrate his life will follow at 2:00 PM in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by pastor Darrell Massey with the burial to take place at Alamance Memorial Park at 3:00 PM.
