Burlington

Raymond Edward Bell, Jr., 85, affectionately known to many as "Ray," passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 6, 1941 in Alamance County to the late Raymond Edward Bell Sr. and Mary Reba Johnson Bell, and was the husband to Dianne McPherson Bell who survives.

Ray devoted more than thirty years of his life to Wachovia, where he retired as a respected bank manager. His career was marked by unwavering commitment and a keen eye for opportunity—traits that later inspired him to pursue his lifelong passion in a new venture. After retirement, he founded R.E. Bell Enterprises, LLC, fulfilling a dream nurtured by his profound enthusiasm for cars, as he turned his love for automobiles into a successful car dealership.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ray was a man of boundless energy and generous spirit. He was known as an outgoing individual who never met a stranger, embracing everyone with a warm smile and an open heart. To his family, he was the steadfast rock—a loving father, devoted husband, cherished grandfather, great grandfather, treasured brother, and a loyal friend who enriched every life he touched.

Ray was a history buff and he thrived in the thrill of discovering a good deal, which brought him joy and excitement throughout his life. A true family man and kid at heart, he has been a season ticket holder for Busch Gardens Williamsburg for many years, an experience he enjoyed deeply. He loved traveling and spending time with his family at their beach house at Carolina Beach where he built countless cherished memories with loved ones.

Ray is survived by his devoted wife of thirty-one years, Dianne McPherson Bell; his beloved daughter, Melissa Bell; his stepchildren, Jeff Young and his wife Cindy, and Kristin Young; his granddaughter, Jennifer McLaughlin and her husband Casey; a great grandson, Lenny McLaughlin; and his step-grandchildren, Matthew Young and his wife Abbie, and Anna Young. Ray was a beloved brother to Jim, Donald, and Charles Bell and a beloved uncle to Megan Bell, Justin Bell, and Brandon Bell.

His family remembers him as a man who lived fully—embracing his passions, cherishing family moments, and forging friendships that endured beyond a lifetime.

The celebration of life service will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel, to celebrate Ray's life. There will be a private burial at Pine Hill Cemetery.
