Robert "Bob" Theodore Hentze, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his cherished family. He was born on November 23, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Theodore Roosevelt "Teddy" Hentze and Helen Willamina Beckmann Hentze. Bob lived a life marked by dedication, love, and service.

Bob was a proud US Army Veteran whose commitment to his country was only the beginning of a lifetime of selfless service to others. Following his military service, he dedicated 42 years to AT&T, where he worked diligently as a Buyer before retiring. Those who knew Bob admired him for his unwavering willingness to help anyone in need—a quality that defined his character throughout his life.

A man deeply devoted to his family, Bob's proudest accomplishment was always his family. From the very beginnings of his children’s lives, he was involved in their school activities and sports. He loved coaching his sons in baseball, that created memories that will live forever in their hearts. Bob enjoyed traveling with his family to the beach and mountains, cherishing those memorable family vacations.

Beyond his family and career, Bob was a dedicated volunteer of Alamance Lutheran Church where he attended. There, he generously volunteered his time in the church office, carefully preparing bulletins for services and lending a hand wherever it was needed. His quiet acts of kindness and service meant a lot within the congregation and community.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Laureen Hammerstedt Hentze, whose partnership was a pillar of strength and love. He is survived by his son, Robert "Bob" Hentze, his daughter, Laureen H. Rumley and her husband Aaron, as well as cherished grandchildren Madison Hentze, Sarah Hentze, Cassandra Rakes, Ryan Hentze, and Ally Snuggs and her husband Mason. Bob's legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Everett and Sawyer Snuggs, who brought indescribable joy to his later years. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who hold fond memories of his kindness and generosity. Bob has now been reunited with his family that preceded him in death, his parents, a son, Thomas "Tom" Hentze, and his sister, Helen H. Kelly.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Bob will be held at 2:00PM Friday, May 29, 2026 at Alamance Lutheran Church with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:00PM prior to the service. All who were touched by Bob’s kindness, warmth, and unwavering spirit are invited to join in honoring a truly remarkable man.

Robert "Bob" Theodore Hentze leaves behind a legacy that will forever resonate within the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he brightened simply by being himself.
