Robert E. Lee “Scrubby” Ramsey passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Scrubby was of the Christian faith. He believed that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save him from sin.
Think of the kindest, most humble, giving person you ever met, that would be Scrubby. He spoke in a soft voice and was ever so patient. It took very little to make him happy. A hand full of shiny pennies would get you a smile and a thumbs up. He loved looking for special rocks which he called “gold”.
When Scrubby was young, his family was well known for being musicians. They played at Brown Barn among other places. His brother, Robert Theron Ramsey, Jr. was known throughout the area as “Little Elvis”. In addition to playing music, Scrubby loved to hunt and fish. At his death, he still had his beloved beagles, Jake and Freddie.
Many people knew Scrubby as the ambassador of Brightwood Inn. He greeted everyone and would soon begin to tell them a tall tale. He indeed had a vivid imagination. Scrubby was so close to Paul Treadway, Lucille Little and Carolyn Sutton. They worked many long hard hours together at the restaurant. Paul, Scrubby and Lucille not only worked together, they lived together as a family unit for many years. Scrubby and Lucille spent many hours planting and caring for her flowers and eating lots of ice cream.
Scrubby was preceded in death by his father, Robert Theron Ramsey, Sr.; mother, Ardell Goards Ramsey, brothers, Robert Theron Ramsey, Jr. and Sherman Ray Ramsey; and sisters, Rachael Delaine and Delores Fay. Though not blood related, Scrubby considered the following people his family: Bruce Becker; Tom Ferguson; Chris Barber; Bud Fritz; Andy and Bobby Brown; Joe Thompson; Dennis and Nancy Fogleman; Bob and Nancy York; Larry Mohleman and wife; Jennifer Teague and family; Marty Ursery; Berma Hudgins; Donna Randolph; Steve and Patsy Bartis; Ricky, Rod and Carolyn Sutton; Rusty Randolph and family; Carolyn Albright and family; Bill Johnson; Donald Robinson and family; Lucille, Ricky, James, Joann, Junior and Nancy Little; Dave Gitlin; Pat and Cheryl Versace and family; Bobby Gerringer; Tommy Oliver; John and Sandra Hipps; Sidney Lyons; Jean and Fred Gilliam; Tommy Willis; Ronnie Butner; Bud Eanes; Sid, Ruby and Delores Hutson; Charles Glenn “Chink” Smith; Randy and Ray Sutton.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bruce Church with the interment to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:45-1:45 Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
