Roger Leo Harris, born on August 31, 1942, in Wilkes County, was a beacon of light for all who knew him. Known for his generous spirit and unwavering support, he was a loving family man and an exceptional helper to everyone around him. His famously adept hands were never without the right tool for any job, whether in the garage fixing a neighbor's car or lending a hand at a family gathering. Roger truly embodied the essence of kindness, often becoming a second dad to his in-laws and an irreplaceable friend to many.
For Roger, family meant everything. He cherished every moment spent with his beloved fiancé, Debbie Best, with whom he shared a profound love, and together, they have made many beautiful memories. He was a devoted father to his children, Tammie Groce (Richard) and Michael Harris (Frankie). His pride in his grandchildren, Madeline Preston (Danny), William Harris, and Joseph Harris, shone brightly, as did the laughter surrounding their time together. Roger also delighted in the role of great-grandfather to his sweet great-granddaughter, Meyers Preston. Roger leaves behind his loving sister, Darlene Casstevens (Jeff), along with his caring sister-in-law, Brenda Harris, very special nieces, Miranda Gray and her children Macy and Baily, Missy Cook (Adam) and nephew, Freddie Harris (Jennifer) and their children, Colby, Brandon and Josh. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Fred and Opal Harris; brother, Ronnie Harris and his wife, Donna Harris.
On the eve of his 83rd birthday, Roger left this world on August 30, 2025, at Alamance Regional Medical Center. His warmth and joy will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Earlier in life, he was a beloved member of Cedar Cliff United Methodist Church, where he built lifelong friendships. In recent years, he found great solace attending church alongside Debbie, solidifying their bond even further at Union Ridge.
Roger will always be remembered fondly as Alamance County's treasure Hunter—a gentle soul who touched lives far and wide with his simple, yet profound goodness. His impact will be felt by those he leaves behind, as they carry forward his legacy of love and unwavering support.
