Ronald Edward Lee (Coach Lee), 89, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, at Moses Cone Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 4, 1936, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Ron was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, coach and friend.
For over 30 years, Ron dedicated his life to teaching mathematics at Graham High School and then Williams High School, where he not only inspired countless students but also served as the beloved boys and girls tennis coach, imparting his knowledge and passion for the sport. His tennis teams won many state championships. Ron’s commitment to education and youth development exemplified his kind-hearted nature and unwavering dedication to those around him. A tennis court at Joe Davidson Park stands proudly in his honor, a testament to his influence and passion for the game. He is also honored in the Burlington Tennis Museum.
He found joy and peace in the simpler pleasures of life. He meticulously crafted his outdoor gazebo where he would often spend time with family, sharing laughter and stories that enriched their lives. His greatest pride came not from accolades or achievements but from the love he had for his children and grandchildren. He took immense joy in attending their sporting events and celebrating their accomplishments, always a source of encouragement and support.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 62 years, Linda Lee, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Ron is also survived by his cherished children, Robin Lee and his wife Tracy, and Michele Lee Terry and her husband John. Grandchildren, Madison Lee, Spencer Lee and her husband Ryan Dunwoody, and Nathan Terry and his fiancée Sarah Houlden. Ron was preceded in death by his grandson, Jonathan Terry; his parents, Luby Cortez Lee and Alice Wells Lee; and his sisters, Joyce Bobbs and Ruby Angst.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 in the chapel at Lowe Funeral Home with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
