Rosalie Esther Chewning Cook, a beloved mother, sister, Grammie, and friend, passed away on September 11, 2026, at UNC Chapel Hill. She was born on April 26, 1942, to Frank and Bessie Chewning.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Lynn Tweedy (Bo Dudley), Lisa Henderson (Danny), Tony Cook (Jenn), Steve Cook (Jamie Lynn Parsons), Kenny Cook, and Crystal Church (Chad Luster); her sister, Rebecca Anderson; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Leroy Cook; her son, James Cook; her grandson, Kyler Cook; and her brother, Morgan Chewning.
Rosalie always made blankets and gave them away, telling those who received them that they were a hug from her whenever they used them. She was the best mom—not just to her own children, but to many, many others. She didn’t want to be seen, but was always helping behind the scenes. She was willing to cook, bake, serve, or do anything that was needed. She made cakes for all the events—weddings, baby showers, anniversaries, and more. She was always there with whatever was needed.
Her heart went out to everyone. She offered a comforting hand or hug to make you feel better. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lived all over. Seeing their pictures on social media was the highlight of her day. When she received a phone call from friends or family, she would go somewhere private and make them her whole world for the duration of the call.
Her strength came from her love and faith in Jehovah God. She was a faithful Jehovah’s Witness for over 60 years. The advice she gave was Bible-based and drawn from her life experiences.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:30PM on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Kingdom Hall, located at 202 Webster Road, Graham, NC 27253.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to: Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York 1000 Red Mills Road Wallkill, NY 12589-3299
