Russell “Russ” Allan Roberts, 83, of Whitsett, peacefully left his earthly body on Monday, September 29, 2025. He was born in Ashfield, Massachusetts on November 9, 1941, to Gilbert Wesley Roberts, Sr and Dorothy Harrison Roberts.
After discharging from the United States Air force with his pilot’s license, Russ worked as a corporate pilot for several years. He then became a textile consultant, a career that brought him to North Carolina, spanned nearly six decades, and took him to countries all over the world.
As a youth, Russ took an active role in the Future Farmers Association and received many honors while showing cattle. He was recognized by the National Dairy Products Corp with an Efficient Production Award for superior achievement, showed at the National Dairy Cattle Congress, and represented the state of Massachusetts on the National Cattle Judging team.
An avid horseman, Russ expanded his childhood cattle farm banner, In-Glen Farm (IGF), when he began to breed, raise and show Morgan and Miniature horses as well as Shetland ponies at his family farm in Whitsett. He found much joy in sharing his beloved IGF bred champions with others. He took particular pride that his love of horses was also instilled in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He fondly shared the history, stories and successes of the IGF born and raised horses, many of whom hold multiple National and World championship titles, with visitors of his farm and friends within the horse industry.
Russ was a devoted family man. He enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren at school functions, extracurricular activities, sporting events and more. He most cherished the family traditions of “Sunday on the farm” for weekly dinners, barn and pool time.
Russ is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy Roberts; daughters, Melissa Cook and Vicki Rohrer and husband Joey; grandsons, Jordan Rohrer and wife Jessica, and Wesley Rohrer and fiancé Hannah; granddaughter, Ryan Cook; great-granddaughters, Aurora and Belle; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gilbert Wesley Roberts, Jr.; sisters, Marianne Roberts Craft and Judith Roberts Provost, and son-in-law, Jeff Cook.
A celebration of Russ’s life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and will host a reception at In-Glen Farm. Please monitor the In-Glen Farm Facebook for specific details.
