Ruth Apple Hawk, 93, passed away Monday, March 30, 2026 at her residence. She was born in Guilford County to the late Jeter Boyd Ingle and Beulah Graber Cooke Ingle.
Ruth was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who greeted everyone with a bright smile that shone through her sparkling blue eyes. She truly cared for others and always made sure that no one ever left her home hungry. Ruth spent her entire career working in the hosiery industry and was a great seamstress. She loved to crochet, gardening, working in the yard, treasure hunting at flea markets and making trips to Harkers Island.
She is survived by her son, Leon E. Apple (Karen); grandson, Nicholas E. Apple; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand and great nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved adopted pet, “Bailey”. She was preceded in death by her two beloved husbands, Leonard “Nig” Apple and Harold E. Hawk, her parents, sisters, Caroline Ingle Perry and Carleen Ingle Atkins and a brother, Clarence “Pinto” Ingle.
A service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Larry R. Foust with interment to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 Wednesday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Ruth’s caregivers, Tina and Penny and her hospice nurse, Nicholson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to AuthoraCare Collective, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
