Yanceyville Ruth Estelle Briggs Irby, 88, formerly of Prospect Hill, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the Brian Center in Yanceyville. She was born in Person County to the late Grover Cleveland Briggs and Allie Roberta Wilson Briggs Olive and was married to the late Cabell Richard Irby, Sr. She was a life-long member of Lea Bethel Baptist Church. She loved quilting and cooking. She is survived by her children, Janie Hugh Nelson of Burlington, Jeanette Fred Beaudet of Burlington, Frances Buck Taylor of Rougemont, Peggy Talley of Cedar Grove, Mary Bush Billy Garner of Graham, Vickie Irby and Wanda Riley, both of Cedar Grove, Jimmy Debbie Irby of Mebane, Ricky Vickie Irby of Elon, Jackie Sarah Irby of Hillsboro and Barry Irby of Prospect Hill; 24 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and sisters, Bertha Simmons of High Point and Everline Winfred Aldridge of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and children, CR Irby, Jr., Patricia Talley and Garry Irby. The funeral service will be held at Lea Bethel Baptist Church at 3:00 PM Tuesday by Chaplain Steve Jordan and Rev. Ronnie Reynolds with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home. The family would like to say special thanks to the staff at the Brian Center Nursing Home in Yanceyville and Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell for their care and support.
