While surrounded by family, Sandy peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 15, 2023. She was born on January 17, 1944, in Lima, Ohio to the late Robert Eugene Miller and Louise Campnell Miller. Sandy grew up in Lima, Ohio and attended The Ohio State University, where she earned her BSN and met the man of her dreams, Joseph “Mike” Cornwell. Sandy and Mike were married July 2, 1966, in Lima, Ohio.
Over the years, Sandy and Mike lived in Ohio, Texas, Germany, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina. One of the greatest joys of Sandy’s life was mothering their three children: Rob, Julie, and Sara. The family enjoyed vacations, with favorite destinations, including Disney World, St. Petersburg (FL), Gatlinburg (TN), Germany, Hawaii, Canada, Boyne (MI), and many camping adventures.
During her career, Sandy worked as a clinical orthopedic instructor, public health nurse, family practice nurse, and school nurse. She loved caring for people and faithfully served at church, in schools, for hospice, and in domestic and international mission work. Additionally, Sandy enjoyed reading, cooking, exercising, going to Ohio State football games, and family travel planning/executing/documenting, but mostly, she loved spending time with her family.
Becoming a Grandma/Great Grandma was another of life’s greatest joys for Sandy. She loved attending her grand/great grandchildren’s church and sporting events, as well as vacationing, reading, going to the movies, cooking, and playing with them.
Survivors include: her husband, Dr. Mike Cornwell; their children: Rob Cornwell, Julie Peoples and husband Stacy, and Sara Nolette and husband Charlie; grandchildren: Conter, Maxton, Sebastian, Jacob, Grace and husband Tiernan, and Seth; and great grandchildren, Sienna, Olivia, and Nathan.
A graveside Celebration of Sandy’s Life will be held on July 1st, 2023, at 2:30PM at Union Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio. Additionally, a drop in gathering will be held on August 6th, 2023, from 1-2PM, followed by a Celebration of Sandy’s Life at 2PM, at the Twin Lakes Coble Creek Chapel in Burlington, NC.
