Sara Atkinson Chandler

Sara Ellen Atkinson Chandler, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 10, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on September 25, 1938 in Anson County to the late Matthew and Rosa Stafford Atkinson, and was the wife of 48 years to the late William Kenneth “Ken” Chandler who died in 2006.

Sara retired after 25 years with AO Smith. She was a member of Open Bible Baptist Church where she was known as “Little Mama” and loved by many. Sara was such a giving person with a sweet soul and a mama figure to many. She will be dearly missed by everyone that knew her.

Sara is survived by her children, Billy Chandler and wife Elaine, Jeff Chandler and wife Virginia, David Chandler and significant other, Kim Sieler, and Sharon Grubb and husband Donald; a sister, Dot Atkinson; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, two great great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her two sons, Billy Carter, Jr. and Baron Chandler; a sister, Christine Burr; a brother, Junior Atkinson and a great great granddaughter, Hailie Freeze.

The funeral service to celebrate the life of Sara will be at 11:00am Friday, July 14, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Steve Pruitt with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10am – 10:45am Friday prior to the service and other times at the daughters’ home in Burlington.
