Sarah Frances Johnson Baxley, 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Twin Lakes. She was born on January 16, 1944, in Kinston, North Carolina to the late William Dalrymple Johnson, Jr. and Leslie Virginia Turnage Johnson. Sarah’s life was a testament to devotion—both to her family and the community she so dearly loved.
A retired part owner and operator of The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Bladenboro, NC; Sarah’s life and career were marked by care and commitment, reflecting her generous spirit. She was a proud member of the First Baptist Church of Bladenboro, where she used her gift of hospitality in many ministries over the years. Whether serving in the food pantry, organizing social events, or providing snacks to children during Vacation Bible School, Sarah’s presence brought comfort and joy to those around her.
Sarah was not only a beloved member of her small town and dedicated church member, but also a woman of varied interests who enriched her life through simple pleasures. In her earlier years, she completed beautiful cross stitch patterns as a hobby. One of her most favorite and complex patterns reflected her love for UNC and Chapel Hill’s iconic Franklin Street. Today, both sides of Franklin Street hang on her son’s home office wall and are admired by all who see it. Sarah was a devoted participant in Bladenboro’s local Ladies Book Club and Gardening Club, where friendships blossomed through shared stories and laughter. Sarah also had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. Over the years she had several special canine companions, but none as special as her late rescue dog, Maggie. She found peace and happiness in spending time with her family, socializing with friends, loving on dogs, and remembering cherished moments at Mrytle Beach with her late sister, Mary Helen Johnson Garris.
At the heart of Sarah’s life was her family, her proudest accomplishment and greatest joy. She is remembered tenderly by her devoted son, Robert Benjamin “Ben” Baxley, his wife Christy, and her beloved grandson, Caleb Baxley. She is survived by her brother, William “Bill” Dalrymple Johnson III and his wife Elaine. Her nieces Leslie Kay Garris and her partner Lee Ball, and Lisa Johnson Weathersby and her husband Brian, as well as nephews, Ken Garris and William “Will” Johnson and his wife Tracy. A great niece, Lakin Johnson and great nephews, Hunter Johnson and Brody Johnson; and her friend and former husband, Earl Baxley. Sarah was preceded in death by her beloved parents and sister.
Her legacy is one of unwavering love and commitment—a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be sorely missed but gently remembered in the hearts of all who knew her.
