Sarah Ruth Corn Godwin, born on June 19, 1944, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, after a brief illness at the Hospice Home. She was 81 years old.
Sarah shared a cherished marriage with her husband, Chris Godwin, whom she wed on May 16, 1970. Together, they built a loving family and were partners in life for 38 years until Chris's passing. In addition to her husband, Sarah was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Godwin, her parents, Pinkney Valentine “PV” and Ethel Leverette Corn, her sisters, Christine McCrary and Lola Love, and her brothers, Wayne and Lonnie Corn.
Sarah is lovingly remembered by her surviving family members, including her daughter, Cheryl Godwin Sanders and her husband, Richard; her daughter, Sherry Williams; and her son, Jody Godwin and his wife, Beth. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Courtney, Colby, Jessica, Blane, Josh, Kayla, Alexis, Lauren and Leah, and six great grandchildren, as well as her brother, Ray Corn.
Raised in Hendersonville, Sarah was a dedicated member of the First Church of the Nazarene for several years. After graduating from Hendersonville High School, she embarked on a career marked by a strong work ethic, making lasting friendships throughout her time spent at Ruth Originals, Ball Glass, Steelcase, and Parts Unlimited. Sarah lived in Hendersonville until recently when she moved to Burlington’s Alamance House Assisted Living, where she was known for her caring spirit, impressive whistle, and willingness to lend a helping hand which made an indelible impact on those around her.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who truly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Sarah will be remembered fondly for her love, strength, and the countless lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey.
A gathering of friends and family will take place to honor Sarah's life on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 2:00 to 3:30 PM at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory in Burlington. A graveside service will be held in Hendersonville, NC, at Shepherd Memorial Park on Saturday, March 21, at 2:00 PM, with the family welcoming friends afterward.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cure Alzheimer's Fund.
