Sharon Lee Heckman

Sharon Lee Heckman, 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, June 27, 2026. Sharon was born in South Bend, Indiana, on August 26, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Frank Harold Allen, Sr. and Phyllis Elaine Wilcox and was the beloved wife of the late William Edwin Heckman, Jr., with whom she shared 39 wonderful years of marriage.

Bill and Sharon married on October 22, 1960, and made their home in Rockford, Illinois before welcoming their two daughters, Holly and Heidi. Bill’s career led them to many parts of the country, eventually settling in North Carolina. Sharon found employment at Duke University Medical Center where she worked as a medical transcriptionist and an administrative assistant for over 20 years until she retired in 2003.

Sharon enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, watching movies with them, and attending school functions. She also liked to read and had quite the book collection she proudly displayed. She loved watching murder mystery tv shows and dancing to any Elvis song that was played. Sharon was always on the go and enjoyed traveling and her favorite past time, shopping. Her recent travels included a cruise with her granddaughter, trips to the beach, New York City, and the American Dream Mall.

For the last few years, Sharon has attended the Harbor Adult Day Program at Moneta Springs Memory Care at Twin Lakes Community where she enjoyed the activities and visiting with the many friends she made. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Durham until she moved to Alamance County in 2021.

Sharon is survived by her daughter Holly Thomasson and husband Todd; her granddaughter Laura Thomas and husband Chase; her grandsons Cameron Scoggins, Aaron Thomasson and girlfriend Fin Valentine, James Thomasson, and Iain Thomasson, her great-grandson Archie Thomas; her sister Cheryl Trotter and husband Mike, her brother Terry Allen and wife Mollie, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

In addition to her husband Bill and her parents, she was preceded in death by her precious daughter, Heidi Heckman, sister Judy Johnson, and brothers Robert Allen and Frankie Allen.

Sharon will be deeply missed and remembered for her beautiful smile and sense of humor. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Always Best Care, especially her caregiver, Gladys, and Amedysis Home Health and Hospice for their kindness and support. Also, a very special thank you to the Harbor Day program and to the many friends that have been supporting the family during this time.

A service to celebrate Sharon’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Kevin Thomasson and Rev. Jeff Smith with the burial to follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham. The family will receive friends from 11:30 – 12:45 prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the daughter, Holly’s home.
